Congress sweeps rivals

It amazing, the power of democracy! The people of India have voted for the current government and against the 3rd front. NDA has pretty much stayed where they were, its the Left and the erstwhile horsetraders who lost out...

Great execution of plans by the Congress. They had 3 ppl campaigning in the form of Sonia Gandhi, PM Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi, and BJP's lonely Modi couldn't match them, at least in 2009.

I guess I shouldn't say much, let the numbers say it all. Check them here

I must say, its Jai Ho for the UPA - minus left, minus Lalu; its an extremely creditable achievement... Great work to the Congress and BJP should think long and hard about how they can improve, for 2014...

Marketing lessons from Kingfisher Airlines

Some days back when Bangalore thrashed Mumbai in IPL, we were discussing the marketing genius of Kingfisher. While all others have given some silly names to their teams, Mr. Mallya has literally branded his team. This post details my experience with Kingfisher Airlines.

Some days back I flew Kingfisher from Mumbai to Cal for the convocation. Today, they sent me this nice envelope which makes me a member of King Club- their frequent flyer program. The presentation of the 'goodie bag' is superb, with 3 credit card like Membership cards, special travel badges, slick magazine about benefits in typical style, a personal message from the most flamboyant Indian to his 'personal guest'.

All said and done, Kingfisher are kings at customer service. Literal red carpet treatment to even the economy class fliers, excellent in flight service, good customer relationships, very good call centers, they are truly India's only 5 star airline! I would certainly encourage all my friends to Fly Kingfisher, you won't be disappointed for sure!

Random Rhythmic Rumblings: Darkness/Light

(I normally post my poetic potshots on my personal blog parsing-thoughts. However this one's for Sid's readers. Hope you like it!)

I am disgusted
I am tired
I am overwhelmed
I am overpowered
It's Darkness
Everywhere
So cold
So dark
Defecating on the universe
Encroaching on my soul

And then
I see it
A Ray
Of hope
Of light
I ride it
Like Einstein
That one ray
Through my doubts
Through the clouds
Takes me
To the Sun
So warm
So bright

Strat.in - Strategy Blog

An interesting new venture has started and I am among the founding team . 5 of us who recently passed out from the revered IIM in East India - IIM Calcutta have started a strategy blog at http://strat.in

The vision of our new blog is as follows:

Strat. In stands for Strategy Invented, Strategy Indianized, Strategizing!

Today the web has made huge strides in replacing the traditional media and blogs have become obiquitous. We, some of the recent graduates of premier institutions in India wanted to contribute to this revolution. We felt that though a lot of people write about technology and even business, but the strategy behind them is rarely discussed. This is our attempt to discuss the strategic decisions and management issues faced in India.

My articles at this blog can be accessed at http://strat.in/author/siddhesh

Please give feedback about the blog at siddheshj@magnifrisco.com

Cheers,

7 ways to do Self - introspection

Life is a confidence game. Whenever things do not go your way and you suffer setbacks, either personally or as a part of a team, sometimes there is a need to look within. Introspection, it is said, is one of the most important tools of self-improvement. In fact, the greatest of the winners also spend a lot of time with themselves. Importance of self introspection has been captured extremely well in Samveda

Anybody desirous of success should spend some time in introspection and contemplation

Here we take a look at 7 ways of doing introspection

1. Maintain a personal diary - A diary of your personal milestones is a very good resource of looking within. If you are someone who cannot find time to write a diary, maintain a personal weblog which isn't shared with anyone. All major blogging sites offer sharing options where you can opt not to share blogposts with anyone.
  2. Ask your team members for feedback - Team members, particularly those you trust is an important asset for feedback. If a team doesn't exist, ask for candid feedback from your family members. What your trusted ones think about you always gives different perspectives.
  3. Go for a long walk - On this long walk, ideally in an open space with trees/roads you are familiar with, think of the past week/month and look at things closely. Ask yourself, 'Could I have done things differently?'
  4. Read, read, read - I have personally found this very important. When things aren't going your way, sometimes reading helps you look at life in a different way. I am not asking for any genre based reading, even newspapers would do. But read a lot and on varied subjects. It helps taking your mind off for a bit and that way you open yourself up to the outside world, which in turn makes you a better person as a whole.
  5. Meditate - A lot of people today do this when they are alone. Even something as simple as chanting the word 'Aum' continuously during travel - Bus or train or car - helps tremendously. Meditation helps clear the cob-webs in the mind - this is not globish/gibberish, but something that I have learnt from experience.
  6. Hobbies - Develop / nurture and grow your own hobby. Spending time on your favorite hobby puts a smile on your face. For example, writing on blogs invariably puts a smile on my face and its a superbly relaxing experience for me. I know of friends for whom, dancing in a disco is a great relaxation. Spend time on your hobby, especially during the weekend and think of the week gone by.
  7. Watch inspiring movies - Different movies are liked by different people. Watch such movies which inspire or motivate you. Watch such movies which will keep you engrossed for 2 hours and then start thinking about yourself again. The 2 hours break you gave yourself often does a world of good for your own sake, since now you are a happy person ready to have another view at yourself.
To conclude, I believe, life isn't what happens to you, but what you make of it - and introspection is important since it improves your life.

Cheers and have a great weekend!
